Gender, form, and etymology

Etymology:

From Greek glypho (γλυφή), carved or engraved and pyrenos (πῡρήν), a fruit stone. The typically pale ground color and dark parallel lines on the dome-shaped pronotum resembles the pit of a stone fruit, like a peach.
