Gender, form, and etymology

Etymology:

Named after the Matilda effect, coined by the historian Margaret W. Rossiter (1993) and first described by the feminist activist Matilda Joslyn Gage (1826–1898). The term refers to the systematic under-recognition of women scientists, whose discoveries have often been attributed to male colleagues, and whose contributions were often overlooked for many years.
