Gender, form, and etymology
Etymology:
Relating to distribution in mountainous southwestern states of the USA. The name seems to be intended as adjective, but contrary to Günther's treatment, Ellipes is feminine according to the original description (Scudder 1902 adapted Tridactylus minutus to Ellipes minuta). The appropriate Latin word "monticola" (mountain dweller or mountaineer) is a noun.
