Etymology:
In memory of its collector, the author's friend and fellow-countryman, George Latimer Bates, whose knowledge of the animal life in West Africa, and particularly the Cameroons, has been equalled in very few. While he was best known as an ornithologist, the extensive collections he made in certain other fields of zoology have added, and will continue to add, to our knowledge of the West African biota.
