Gender, form, and etymology
Etymology:
From the Greek name Maia, the eldest of the Pleiades (in Greek mythology the seven daughters of Pleione and Atlas), meaning ‘mother’ or ‘good mother’. This name is given to this species to reflect the exhibited maternal care.
