Gender, form, and etymology

Etymology:

The name combines two words. "Mello" honors the Brazilian researcher Francisco Assis Ganeo de Mello, in recognition of his major contribution to national orthopterology. He described the tribe Odontogryllini. The second part, "-odontus", derives from Greek odous (ὀδούς), meaning "tooth," and forms the root of the genus name Odontogryllus, to which this subgenus belongs.
